New homes for sport proposed in revamps
A NEW community centre, more space for school sport and new homes for Aussie rules football and soccer are part of a plan to revamp Mann and Davis ovals in Mosman Park.
The need to improve ovals and the adjacent Nash Field, which hosts the Western Knights Soccer Club, was established in the council’s overall 2018 sport and recreation plan.
It is hoped the proposed revamp would relieve crowding at neighbouring Mosman Park Primary School, secure sport facilities for St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls and Iona Presentation College, and house the soccer club at a modern home.
All have to contribute to the expected $22,000 cost of developing the draft before any final proposal is used to create a business plan for funding.
“The AFL ground could be swapped from Mann to Davis oval and would be the minimum ‘full size’ for that code,” Mosman Park Mayor Brett Pollock said.
He said the Department of Education, the private schools and the club were expected to contribute to the revamp, which could take more than 10 years.
He said the council had no “preconceived ideas” and would listen to others.
