Award to ten­nis’ won­der Wall

COTTES­LOE Ten­nis Club stal­wart Al­lan Wall (72) won a Ser­vice to Ten­nis Award at the 2018 WA Ten­nis In­dus­try Awards Night at Op­tus Sta­dium this month.

Wall was the driv­ing force be­hind Cottes­loe Ten­nis Club get­ting the Davis Cup round in 2014, which brought world-class ten­nis to WA and showed the state’s ten­nis com­mu­nity to the world.

He was also be­hind the club’s re­cent ex­pan­sion for night ten­nis and more ju­nior play­ers.

The award recog­nised his lead­er­ship, pas­sion, sports­man­ship, good­will and ded­i­ca­tion to the sport dur­ing the past 10 years and cre­at­ing re­la­tion­ships be­tween ten­nis clubs and the com­mu­nity dur­ing more than 60 years of play­ing the game.

He is a mem­ber of the Cottes­loe and Dalkeith ten­nis clubs’ com­mit­tees and was trea­surer and a board mem­ber for two years at Ten­nis West.

As a player, he com­peted in the men’s dou­bles at the Aus­tralian Open in 1969 and his name can be found on club cham­pi­onship boards in Perth and Mel­bourne.

“I have had many re­ward­ing ex­pe­ri­ences, in­clud­ing my time on the Board of Ten­nis West, where I was able to see first- hand the huge ef­fort put in by so many peo­ple within the ten­nis com­mu­nity,” Wall said.

“Ten­nis has been a huge part of my life and I have been only too pleased to try give a lit­tle back to the game that has given me so much over such a long time.”

Other award win­ners in­cluded Dalkeith Ten­nis Club’s John Thorpe for coach­ing ex­cel­lence, the Mos­man Park Ten­nis Club’s State League Cham­pion Men’s Team and Royal King’s Park Ten­nis Club’s State League Cham­pion women’s team.
