WAY BACK WHEN WITH GEORGE BALSILLIE
BLOCKAGE: As we follow the pipe laying project with Keith Griffith’s album, we find things have come to a standstill. Just as workmen had reached the Sturt St crossing, a flood came down the gully and equipment had to be moved to higher ground. It is October 1954 and our photo is taken from the Tattersall’s Hotel looking across Sturt St to the rear of the state school grounds and then over the gully. HS Dawkin’s timber yard and the Picture Theatre complete the skyline. Next week we will look at the last photo in this series as the job nears completion.
