Champions in the making
RUGBY LEAGUE: IT’S finals season for more than the seniors this week, with both Charleville High and the junior football league playing big matches over the week.
After Charleville High School’s recent trip, St George has returned the favour, playing an exhibition match on Friday. It was a tie 26-all.
Warren Draper was probably the most notable player, with a charge the length of the field.
Charleville High is playing another game in Roma in possibly a fortnight.
On Saturday it was junior rugby grand final, with Blackall the visitors this time around.
At under-6 level, the Tigers beat the Broncos, with awards going to Liam Garnham as player of the carnival, Matt Ahern for Player of the Year and Mitch Wilkes for Player of the Grand Final.
The under-10Warriors beat the Rabbitohs, with Jack Sargood taking the Jason Jennings Memorial Player of the Grand Final prize, and Kipp Singleton the Michael O’Connell Memorial Trophy for Player of the Year.
The Cowboys rode off with the prize at under-12, beating the Storm. Brock Campbell won Player of the Grand Final, with Jack Schultz winning the Alma and Mac Mitchell Memorial Trophy for Player of the Year.
Brodie Goodman and Mason Barry were most improved players, with Trinity Garnham winning Rookie of the Year.
