Man killed in crash east of Charleville

A 70-YEAR-OLD man was killed in a two-ve­hi­cle crash about 40km east of Charleville last Tues­day af­ter­noon.

Pre­lim­i­nary in­ves­ti­ga­tions sug­gest that about 12.30pm, a util­ity tow­ing a car­a­van at­tempted to turn across the War­rego Hwy to ac­cess a rest stop on the side of the road when a semi-trailer col­lided with the util­ity.

The driver of the util­ity, a 70-year-old man from Finch Hat­ton, died at the scene.

A 72-year-old woman, a pas­sen­ger in the ve­hi­cle, was trans­ported to the Charleville Base Hos­pi­tal with non-life-threat­en­ing in­juries.

The driver of the truck, a 64-year-old man, was trans­ported to the Charleville Base Hos­pi­tal suf­fer­ing shock.

The War­rego Hwy was closed for about two hours while in­ves­ti­ga­tions were con­ducted and the Foren­sic Crash Unit is con­tin­u­ing to an­a­lyse the ac­ci­dent.

The vic­tim’s name has not been re­leased at the re­quest of his fam­ily.
