A NEW FACE IN PAROO COUNCIL
Former CEO to take over role as councillor
THE newest Paroo Shire councillor has been named after results of last month’s by-election were declared.
Suzette Beresford will take the role as the fifth councillor after votes tallied to 497 in her favour.
Cr Beresford was the clear leader in the bid for the position, with the runner-up gaining 157 of the votes.
“I feel excited to be a part of the council process,” Cr Beresford said.
“I’m looking forward to attending the first meeting in Wyandra later this month.”

Cr Beresford is no stranger to the council process, having been the CEO of the Paroo Shire Council 18 years ago.
“A bit has changed since I was in the role, such as the new local government act and there’s different administration procedures in place,” she said.
“The work that the council does hasn’t really changed and that’s what I’m most looking forward to.”
Cr Beresford took the oath last Friday and is now ready to help make a difference in the region.
“I’m going to enjoy working for the betterment of the community. We as councillors help set the format for the future,” she said.
Cr Beresford said she put her hand up for the role with the intentions of having an input in decision making.
“I have no particular agenda to follow except to try and get improvements where they are needed,” she said.
“I hope to make decisions that are sustainable and so that people look forward to a secure future.”
The Paroo by-election was held after former councillor and deputy mayor Neil Hatchman passed away suddenly from a medical condition in July.
