Ladies open their own shed
TO ANY women who’ve ever longed for a chance to learn how to operate trade machinery, wield a welder, or craft furniture by hand, the new Miles Ladies’ Shed might be for you.
The ladies’ shed opens each Wednesday from 3.30pm and this week marked its third meeting.
Miles State High Trade Training Centre trainer and assessor Brady Moffatt said the idea came about after a school tour last year where a number of parents expressed an interest in coming down to the trade training centre themselves.
“Later on in the year it actually went to a vote at men’s shed and sensibly some of the men said ‘look, men at men’s shed like to talk about men’s issues and they come in to chat about issues pertinent to working men or men that’ve just lost their jobs’,” Mr Moffatt said.
“So they didn’t think ladies would be good coming to men’s shed.
“So then the idea of a separate ladies’ shed was put forward, and the rest, as they say, is history.”
