Chinchilla enjoys country music with soul

Western Times - - BEST OF THE WEST -

COUNTRY music groups across the Western Downs united this past Saturday to support one of their much-loved members who has fallen on tough times.

Ken and his wife Kerry Stallan lost their Warra home after it was engulfed by a blaze in the early hours of January 10.

By the time the fire was extinguished, all that was left of the family home on Lytton St was rubble and cherished memories.

Mr Stallan was visibly moved by the fact his close friends and colleagues had pulled together for him during his hour of need.

“We really are overwhelmed that all of the music clubs in the area have come together,” he said.

“I just can’t believe they have all got together to do this for us. For people to be here today, it’s wet, is really surprising; it’s great to see.

“We never expected the bands to do this until we got a call to say all the clubs are holding a fundraiser for you.”

Organiser Cammie Morgan was thrilled that all the respective clubs had jumped at the opportunity to be involved.

“We’re blessed to have had people from all areas come; clubs usually stay in their pockets but everyone has united for today,” Ms Morgan said.

The day featured performances from more than 20 different local country musicians and a sausage sizzle to help raise money for the Stallan family.
