Aus­tralia’s con­tro­ver­sial off­shore de­ten­tion cen­tres are shrouded in se­crecy, thanks to a gov­ern­ment ban on jour­nal­ists and work­ers in the cen­tres barred from di­vulging de­tails. Af­ter the Pa­pua New Guinean court ruled the Manus Is­land cen­tre was un­con­sti­tu­tional, it was closed down in Oc­to­ber last year. Many of the refugees have been moved to Kansas in a swap deal. This sober­ing doc­u­men­tary marks one of the first times the refugees are able to speak freely to the me­dia. For many, the ad­just­ment to ar­riv­ing in Trump’s Amer­ica is huge. In “Swapped: from Manus Is­land to Kansas” these refugees are fi­nally given a voice.
