Comets’ victory on home soil
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Charleville Comets have come away victorious from last weekend’s match against Cunnamulla.
The two rivals met in Charleville for a tough game of football.
The Comets looked to be heading for a comfortable win in front of the home crowd before a late comeback set up a close finish.
The Comets held on for a 40-34 win.
Coach Harry Aitken said he was pleased with his more experienced players.
“The forwards did really well in giving us go-forward in the middle,” Aitken said.
“It set up our backs, who are all very young.
“Most of them are about 18, so the forwards gave them good go-forward and allowed the backs to use their speed.”
The Comets have two weeks off before playing the return match at Cunnamulla.
Aitken said his side still had plenty to work on at training.
“Over the next two weeks we will work on fitness and goal-line defence,” Aitken said.
“I would’ve liked their score to be a little less, because we did let in late tries.”
