$1.3m road spend­ing an­nounced

ROADS and parks were the big win­ners of the Balonne Shire Coun­cil 2018 bud­get, with $1.3 mil­lion to be spent on road de­vel­op­ment and main­te­nance.

The ma­jor up­grades were an­nounced at the bud­get meet­ing last Thurs­day with the coun­cil to spend

$5.5 mil­lion on cap­i­tal projects this fi­nan­cial year.

Projects in­clude Roads to Re­cov­ery work on Honeymah Lane, Whyen­bah Rd and Cub­bie Rd; Trans­port In­fras­truc­ture De­vel­op­ment fund­ing for Kooroon Rd and the re-sheet­ing of 13km of the Mitchell–Bol­lon Rd and a gravel re-sheet­ing of Se­cret Plains Rd.

Leisure fa­cil­i­ties in the re­gion will also be up­graded, with $200,000 al­lo­cated for Dir­ran­bandi Sports Oval ameni­ties, while the Row­den Park grand­stand will be re­fur­bished, thanks to Works for Queens­land fund­ing of $150,000.

About $80,000 will go to­wards the St Ge­orge aero­drome for an au­to­mated weather in­for­ma­tion sys­tem and to im­prove drainage.
