Resources sector considering locals
MEMBERS of the Federal Government heard from the Regional Australia Network yesterday, as part of the Industry, Innovation, Science and Resources Committee’s search for ways to encourage mining investment into local businesses and people. Committee chair Barnaby Joyce said the committee was looking for ideas on how to keep mining wealth in rural areas.
“Mining companies spend a lot of money engaging contractors and suppliers,” Mr Joyce said.
“If there’s a local company that can do that work, they need to get a look in.
“We want to make sure the wealth generated by mining isn’t just leaving on the trains out of town, and never seen again.”
