PRIZES FOR PLAYERS
Local players included in club’s commendations
RUGBY LEAGUE: Mitchell’s biggest banquet saw the best and brightest of the football community come together to finally mark the end of their rugby league season.
The club and all of it’s members had worked hard since before the start of the season to make the year a memorable one, including dedicated players from Charleville, Ross Tilley and Charlie Aitken.
Aitken, who has also played for the Queensland Outback side, was awarded Player of the Finals with the Magpies; the under 18s team made it to the district Grand Final this year.
Tilley was awarded Best Back on the under 18s squad.
It’s been a big one for the Magpies, who are still riding the wave of excitement from the club’s recent centenary and reunion, and reflecting on a long journey to the grand final for the U18 side.
Always a tight-knit club, former players and lifelong members were among those to congratulate the Magpies team at large.
Club member Henry Byrnes expressed his appreciation, reminding everyone that the club was so much more than a football team.
“I would just like to congratulate all the players, coaches, managers and everyone else who contributed to the 2018 season for the Magpies.
“It doesn’t matter what you did, every little thing helps make the club what it is.”
It was a successful season for the Magpies, and arguably one of the better ones in recent years, Byrnes said.
“It was encouraging to see the roll-up of players this year – for the first time in a very long time we managed to field two senior sides without having to rely on players backing up.
“To the players, you can look forward next year to building on this years efforts, you all should be proud,” Byrnes said.
WELL DONE: A grade Players' Player and Most Consistent (A grade), Matthew Newton.
