Long-time doctor will be sorely missed

Western Times - - LIFE -

DR DESLEY Marshall is getting ready to hang up the stethoscope as she prepares to retire after almost four decades as a general practitioner in the region.

Dr Marshall said her time as a GP had been fulfilling as she provided medical advice for the tight-knit community of St George.

“At times, it can be very stressful and challenging but it’s very enjoyable as well because you’re dealing with people that you know as individuals, who you are involved with as part of a community,” she said.

“It’s less anonymous than city practices and it’s a very fulfilling, rewarding career.”

Dr Marshall moved back into general practice in 2009 after working in the procedural field for many years as the St George Hospital became better resourced.

“We now have a hospital with doctors that operate in procedural practice which sets the town up for a place where you can have babies and where you’ll be looked after in an emergency.”
