The real all-road

If you still consider ‘crossover’ models to be new-fangled you might be surprised to learn that Volvo’s Cross Country variant of its big wagon was launched at the Frankfurt show 20 years ago. Under various names it’s been around for onesixth of the history of the automobile and has good claim to be the first high-riding wagon, launching just a month before the Subaru Forester and a couple of years before Audi’s first Allroad.
