At Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary you can cuddle a koala in a delightful bushland setting on the edge of the Brisbane River at Fig Tree Pocket. Officially recognised by Guinness World Records, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is the world’s first and largest koala sanctuary, with more than 80 years’ experience and 130 koalas.

■ SIR THOMAS BRISBANE PLANETARIUM. Founded by Brisbane City Council in 1978, the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium is a must-see attraction for science lovers. Take in one of the shows in the Cosmic Skydome, a 12.5-metre-diameter projection dome. Current shows include ‘Starlight’, ‘Capturing the Cosmos’ and ‘Cosmic Collisions’. Each show includes the main feature and a tour of Brisbane’s night sky which is recreated in the Cosmic Skydome. The planetarium can be found in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mt Coot-tha.
