Pop-up Globe Comes To Melbourne
A full-scale temporary working replica of one of the greatest theatres in history, the second Globe, is ‘popping-up’ in the newly-christened Shakespeare Gardens, adjacent to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Pop-up Globe is a three-storey, 16-sided, 900-person capacity theatre which unites cutting-edge scaffold technology with a 400-year-old design. No matter where you sit or stand in the theatre you are no more than 15 metres from the heart of the action on stage. The theatre features all the theatrical trickery of the Jacobean era, including cannons, flaming arrows, hundreds of litres of fake blood, hand-forged armoury and more than 450 period costume pieces specially constructed by the Pop-up Globe in-house wardrobe department.
The theatre is hosting five shows including “As You Like It”, “Much Ado About Nothing”, “Othello” and “Henry V”. There’s also a specially-commissioned new show, “Around the Globe in 60 Minutes!”, which tells the history of the second Globe Theatre.
