Bendigo Art Gallery is staging several major exhibitions during September. On display until 17 September are the works of the 37 finalists in the Gallery’s prestigious Arthur Guy Memorial Prize including winner Margaret Loy Pula’s entry “Anatye (bush potato)”.
Opening on 29 September is “The Costume Designer: Edith Head and Hollywood”. The exhibition honours the life and work of multiple Academy Awardwinning costume designer Edith Head. It brings together more than 70 of her costumes, from the 1930s to the 1960s, gleaned from the archives of Paramount, the Collection of Motion Picture Costume Design and other private collections. The exhibition features garments worn by such names as Shirley Temple, Gloria Swanson, Veronica Lake, Olivia De Havilland, Jane Russell, Audrey Hepburn, Fred Astaire and Yul Brynner. Films highlighted in the exhibition include “The Ten Commandments”, “Samson and Delilah”, “The Emperor Waltz”, “Sunset Boulevard”, “Vertigo”, and “The Heiress”.
