Dandenong: A Cultural Experience
Have an authentic cultural experience without your passport!
GREATER DANDENONG is the most culturally diverse locality in Victoria, with over half of its population born overseas, from over 155 different birthplaces.
Noble Park was formerly a rural township with market gardens and a River Red Gum landscape. Today it has a great sense of community spirit and a much loved village character. The centre has long been infused with important multigenerational community facilities—an aquatic centre that features the largest water slide in Melbourne, historic community hall, schools and language services, sporting fields and more recently a new state of the art skate park designed by pro-skater Jon Mcgrath. Noble Park is a traditional pedestrian friendly main street with a predominant retail focus, including a number of niche bakeries, cafés, restaurants and convenience stores to support daily life.
Dandenong and Springvale offer individual or guided tours. You can experience the cultural and retail delights up close and personal by taking the Food Lovers Tour, testing your tastebuds on the Sensational Springvale Tour, the Maeve O’meara Food Safari Tour of Dandenong, the Progressive Polish Food Tour and the Afghan Bazaar Cultural Tour. These experiences are authentic and true to the many traditions. Dandenong’s arts and cultural precinct is resplendent with many choices, from the award-winning Drum Theatre hosting more than 200 performances and engaging with over 100,000 visitors per year, to the Walker Street Gallery and Arts Centre, which showcases a broad range of exhibitions featuring contemporary artworks by emerging and established artists. Visitors and the local community get to experience a vast array of many different forms of art, at Heritage Hill Museum, surrounded by the Historic Gardens and Laurel Lodge, there are studios whereby artists-in-residence get to express their creative talents and deliver a genuine exhibition to inspire others.
