RACHMANINOFF ON FIRE
Concluding a year of spectacular Rachmaninoff performances, Sydney Symphony Orchestra Artist in Residence Brett Dean brings the renowned composer’s Third Concerto, best known from the movie “Shine”, to life. With Australian pianist Piers Lane as soloist, and featuring Dean’s own “Fire Music” and Sibelius’ “Scenes with Cranes” from the play “Kuolema”, this performance is a poignant exploration of death, rejuvenation and rebirth.

Artist in Residence Brett Dean returns to Carriageworks to conduct the second program in their contemporary series for 2017. Experience a magical performance exploring the strange workings of the subconscious, featuring new compositions by Finnish violinist and composer Erkki Veltheim and sonic artist James Hullick. Enjoy mystical tunes including Liza Lim’s “The Heart’s Ear” and Živkovic’’s “On the Guarding of the Heart”, as well as Dean’s amazing titular piece, “Dream Sequence”.

SIBELIUS & MAHLER: JANINE JANSEN RETURNS
Lauded for her outstanding skills after her Brahms concerto in 2015, Dutch violinist Janine Jansen returns to Sydney with a dazzling rendition of Sibelius’s “Violin Concerto” and Mahler’s “First Symphony”. Conducted by Thomas Søndergård, this performance showcases Jansen’s mesmerising musical voice.
