Wel­come to Syd­ney in Fe­bru­ary! The City of Syd­ney’s Chi­nese New Year cel­e­bra­tions kick off on 16 Fe­bru­ary. Her­ald in the Year of the Dog with gi­ant lanterns, dragon boat races and per­for­mances in Chi­na­town (page 8). The Syd­ney Gay and Les­bian Mardi Gras turns 40 this year. The pro­gram fo­cuses on the theme “40 Years of Evo­lu­tion” and in­cludes the world-fa­mous pa­rade, Fair Day, ex­hi­bi­tions, a film fes­ti­val, talks and more (page 16). Siân Ed­wards heads south of Syd­ney to the Suther­land Shire to dis­cover beau­ti­ful beaches and splen­did food, with plenty to do in this mag­nif­i­cent re­gion (page 46). The smash-hit mu­si­cal “Mamma Mia!” opens in Syd­ney this month at the Capi­tol The­atre. Based on the movie of the same name it fea­tures the time­less songs of ABBA. I can’t wait to see it for my­self! (page 18).
