Zonta Club looking forward to year ahead
MORE than 20 people gathered to welcome two new board members at the Zonta Club of the Whitsundays annual changeover luncheon at the Bogie River Bush House in Bowen on Sunday.
Zonta Club of the Whitsundays advocacy/UN director Pammie Harrison said the event was a great success with a number of members and their partners driving up the day before to enjoy the rustic facilities.
President Angela Spicer highlighted the year’s achievements and presented gifts to board members who served under her for the past 12 months.
She also presented the 2013 president’s award to Roz Jennings for her outstanding work for the club and support throughout the year.
Retiring board member Janet Keppke was sincerely thanked for her input throughout her two year term as advocacy/UN director.
Zonta Club board members were in- ducted into new or ongoing positions for 2013/2014 with new board members Lesley Pratchett stepping in as minutes secretary and Pammie Harrison as the new advocacy/UN director.
Ms Harrison said she was looking forward to continuing the fine work done by the club and enjoying the fellowship along the way.
She said one of the club’s greatest achievements was the African fundraiser night held in October last year which raised $14,000 for the Proserpine Nursing home and educational bursaries with additional funds going to an orphanage in Zimbabwe.
Once the formal part of the luncheon was over Ms Pratchett read a fairy tale with a difference which highlighted the great work done by Zontians in the club. This theme was then carried on by the Horizontians who presented a hilarious rendition of Nobody loves a fairy when they’re 40.
