Zonta Club look­ing for­ward to year ahead

MORE than 20 peo­ple gath­ered to wel­come two new board mem­bers at the Zonta Club of the Whit­sun­days an­nual changeover lun­cheon at the Bo­gie River Bush House in Bowen on Sun­day.

Zonta Club of the Whit­sun­days ad­vo­cacy/UN di­rec­tor Pam­mie Har­ri­son said the event was a great suc­cess with a num­ber of mem­bers and their part­ners driv­ing up the day be­fore to en­joy the rus­tic fa­cil­i­ties.

Pres­i­dent An­gela Spicer high­lighted the year’s achieve­ments and pre­sented gifts to board mem­bers who served un­der her for the past 12 months.

She also pre­sented the 2013 pres­i­dent’s award to Roz Jen­nings for her out­stand­ing work for the club and sup­port through­out the year.

Re­tir­ing board mem­ber Janet Keppke was sin­cerely thanked for her in­put through­out her two year term as ad­vo­cacy/UN di­rec­tor.

Zonta Club board mem­bers were in- ducted into new or on­go­ing po­si­tions for 2013/2014 with new board mem­bers Les­ley Pratch­ett step­ping in as min­utes sec­re­tary and Pam­mie Har­ri­son as the new ad­vo­cacy/UN di­rec­tor.

Ms Har­ri­son said she was look­ing for­ward to con­tin­u­ing the fine work done by the club and en­joy­ing the fel­low­ship along the way.

She said one of the club’s great­est achieve­ments was the African fundraiser night held in Oc­to­ber last year which raised $14,000 for the Proser­pine Nurs­ing home and ed­u­ca­tional bur­saries with ad­di­tional funds go­ing to an or­phan­age in Zimbabwe.

Once the for­mal part of the lun­cheon was over Ms Pratch­ett read a fairy tale with a dif­fer­ence which high­lighted the great work done by Zon­tians in the club. This theme was then car­ried on by the Hor­i­zon­tians who pre­sented a hi­lar­i­ous ren­di­tion of No­body loves a fairy when they’re 40.
