New classes not for the faint hearted
ANYONE wanting to take their fitness to the next level is invited to get involved in the new LesMills Grit Series training sessions at Airlie Fitness.
Launching next week, the intense scientificallybacked structure offers a vigorous workout with one-on-one support from highly trained captains to help you achieve results fast.
Co-owner of Airlie Fitness Wendy Whibley said the 30 minute high intensity, interval training sessions aimed to improve the health and fit- ness of already fit adults.
“Grit Strength classes are not for everyone and definitely not for people with injuries or cardio vascular diseases as they are designed to assist people who are reaching their peek physical performance and want to get to that next level,” she said.
The short sharp demanding exercises combine weightlifting, running and plyometrics for a full body workout that increases aerobic capacity, strength, muscular endurance, metabolism and power.
Ms Whibley said they would also be looking to expand into Grit Cardio classes if the sessions proved to be a hit.
Ms Whibley recently injured her left leg during a warm-up session outside of the gym in her personal time.
“When I was doing a vertical jump just for fun I landed incorrectly and my left leg took the whole impact, cracking my left fibula,” she said.
“As a fit and strong individual you don’t always realise your own limitations and that’s why it is so important for people to learn the appropriate techniques when working out.”
Airlie Fitness will be trialling the Grit Strength training sessions on Wednesday at 10.15am and Thursday at 5.30am for the first two weeks before increasing class options.
The Grit Strength classes will be conducted in group training sessions, capped at eight people per class, to ensure individuals develop the right technique.
IMPROVING FITNESS: Co-owner of Airlie Fitness Wendy Whibley and Grit Strength captain Teena Pettigrew are looking forward to launching the new Grit Series group training sessions at the Cannonvale gym.
