Busy week of bowls in Airlie
LAST Tuesday the ladies had a great game of social bowls with the winners being Margo Stanley, Marie Welsh, Doreen Whitehouse and Judy Chengody.
They defeated Mae Secomb, Dale Hell, Tess Walker and Mabel Davy 17-7.
On the other rink Elaine Hadlow, Jill Spencer and Rhonda Lloyd defeated Jo Howes, Jenny Ryder and Di Dobbins 22-21.
On the other three rinks the men played senior singles rounds with David Dias defeating Col Howes 26-12, Nick Fernbach defeating Dom Sposato 26-16 and Steve Tattam beating Eric Bottle 25-24.
On Wednesday afternoon the ladies pennant team travelled to Mackay to play North Mackay. They lost on almost the last end round when their skip wiped Airlie’s leading bowls out.
Meanwhile in Airlie the men’s social games had 22 players, playing triples and pairs on all rinks.
The winners were Mike Rand, John Fornasiero and Ron Spence who defeated Barry Zillman, Steve Tattam and Wally Gray 29-14.
On the next rink Eric Bottle and Peter Lawton defeated Richard Cresswell and Geoff Hoare 20-13 and then on the next rink Charlie Siely, David Stock and Keith Dunn defeated Russell Bramich, Col Howes and Ken Ryder 22-15.
On the last rink Geoff Wark, Dom Sposato and Nik Fernbach defeated Ted Evans, Herb Secomb and James Argo 22-16.
Wednesday night business house bowls had a full house and the winners were Woolworths with 13 points ahead of Whitsunday Escape and Charter Yachts Australia with 12.
There was no barefoot bowls last week due to the show but will be full steam ahead this Friday.
On Saturday the men’s pennants played Mackay at home and won comfortably.
On Sunday they travelled to Mackay to play at Northern Beaches where they won two games out of three.
At this stage the men’s teams are at the top of the ladder and the next two games will decide the final result.
They play in North Mackay on Saturday and at home against Proserpine on Sunday.
The ladies have the President’s at Home day from 8.30am on Tuesday, July 2.
Airlie Bowlers on Sunday welcomed back Howard Moulang, a regular winter visitor and Zan and Peter Errey from Clare in South Australia.
On rink four the finals of the ladies pair’s championship was played by Margo Stanley and Betty Nicolle against Dale Hell and Sandy Barille with Margo and Betty winning 34-12.
On the other rinks Betty Stock, Peter Lawton and Zan Errey won on a count back from Betty Holness, Ron Spence and David Zimmerman 17-7 and 19-14.
