Busy week of bowls in Air­lie

LAST Tues­day the ladies had a great game of so­cial bowls with the win­ners be­ing Margo Stan­ley, Marie Welsh, Doreen White­house and Judy Chen­gody.

They de­feated Mae Se­comb, Dale Hell, Tess Walker and Ma­bel Davy 17-7.

On the other rink Elaine Had­low, Jill Spencer and Rhonda Lloyd de­feated Jo Howes, Jenny Ry­der and Di Dob­bins 22-21.

On the other three rinks the men played se­nior sin­gles rounds with David Dias de­feat­ing Col Howes 26-12, Nick Fern­bach de­feat­ing Dom Sposato 26-16 and Steve Tat­tam beat­ing Eric Bot­tle 25-24.

On Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon the ladies pen­nant team trav­elled to Mackay to play North Mackay. They lost on al­most the last end round when their skip wiped Air­lie’s lead­ing bowls out.

Mean­while in Air­lie the men’s so­cial games had 22 play­ers, play­ing triples and pairs on all rinks.

The win­ners were Mike Rand, John For­nasiero and Ron Spence who de­feated Barry Zill­man, Steve Tat­tam and Wally Gray 29-14.

On the next rink Eric Bot­tle and Peter Lawton de­feated Richard Cress­well and Ge­off Hoare 20-13 and then on the next rink Char­lie Siely, David Stock and Keith Dunn de­feated Rus­sell Bramich, Col Howes and Ken Ry­der 22-15.

On the last rink Ge­off Wark, Dom Sposato and Nik Fern­bach de­feated Ted Evans, Herb Se­comb and James Argo 22-16.

Wed­nes­day night busi­ness house bowls had a full house and the win­ners were Wool­worths with 13 points ahead of Whit­sun­day Es­cape and Char­ter Yachts Aus­tralia with 12.

There was no bare­foot bowls last week due to the show but will be full steam ahead this Fri­day.

On Satur­day the men’s pen­nants played Mackay at home and won com­fort­ably.

On Sun­day they trav­elled to Mackay to play at North­ern Beaches where they won two games out of three.

At this stage the men’s teams are at the top of the lad­der and the next two games will de­cide the fi­nal re­sult.

They play in North Mackay on Satur­day and at home against Proser­pine on Sun­day.

The ladies have the Pres­i­dent’s at Home day from 8.30am on Tues­day, July 2.

Air­lie Bowlers on Sun­day wel­comed back Howard Moulang, a reg­u­lar win­ter vis­i­tor and Zan and Peter Er­rey from Clare in South Aus­tralia.

On rink four the fi­nals of the ladies pair’s cham­pi­onship was played by Margo Stan­ley and Betty Ni­colle against Dale Hell and Sandy Bar­ille with Margo and Betty win­ning 34-12.

On the other rinks Betty Stock, Peter Lawton and Zan Er­rey won on a count back from Betty Hol­ness, Ron Spence and David Zim­mer­man 17-7 and 19-14.
