Juniors impress before break

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

JUNIOR social tennis was a hive of activity this week with everyone in attendance showing off their abilities.

A hotly contested singles match between Sam Collinson and Jackson Warne in the older set was a highlight while on the reduced size courts there was plenty of rallying action by Jasper McKinnon and Ylana Nurflus.

Junior social tennis is in recess over the holidays and will recommence on the Monday, July 8.

Adult social tennis was in action on Tuesday, Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon.

Rick Galea and Cheryl and John West were just some of the players out there giving their all.

Coaching pupils of the week were the Little Champs.

Some of these youngsters are not much bigger than their tennis racquets but they all give it their all.

The two lights that have been out of action will be replaced over the holidays as well as other maintenance work.

Late nights will be the order over the next two weeks while the Wimbledon Championships are on. Young players from the club are encouraged to pick an Australian player and follow their progress.

The Proserpine junior development round robin is on July 13-14 and players can nominate by visiting www.tennisnorth.com.au.
