Golfers welcome dry weather
WHITSUNDAY golfers were pleased to be back on their own nearly dry home course for the June monthly medal stroke competition last Sunday.
In A grade Geoff Harrison was the winner on nett 72, ahead of runner-up Ross Richards on 76, who beat Kerry Hall on a count back.
Kym Hill had the best gross score. B grade was won by John Gurd on nett 72 ahead of Anna Winterbourn on 74, while Donny Hope had the best gross score.
Wilf Herweg took out C grade on nett 69, edging out runner-up Mark Nicoll on 70.
The best gross score came from Tiina Randmae.
Longest drives on the day came from Geoff Harrison (A grade), Mick Caton (B grade), John McCracken (C grade) and Beryl Miller (ladies).
Nearest-the-pins in A/B grade were Ross Richards on hole 2, Kerry Hall on 9, John Gurd on 13 and Ron Jamieson on 16.
C grade nearest-the-pins were Wilf Herweg on 9 and 13 and Mark Nicol on 16.
Nearest-the-pins for the ladies were Tiina Randmae on holes 9 and 16 and Beryl Miller on 13.
Monthly medal winners’ Guzzler’s Cup went to A grade with Geoff Harrison being the happy recipient.
Next Sunday will be a free day because the postponed Proser- pine mens’ championship will be played over the weekend.
Whitsunday golfers are able to play nine holes on the back nine at normal tee off time of 7.30am.
