Stu­dents achieve black belts

TAEK­WONDO

TWO stu­dents from Whit­sun­day Taek­wondo Oh Do Kwan were graded to black belt at the club’s re­cent Dan grad­ing.

Jar­rad Arthur suc­cess­fully achieved his 2nd Dan and Bowie Hodges achieved his 1st Dan Black Belt. Both Arthur and Hodges have been train­ing with the club since its in­cep­tion in Fe­bru­ary 2010.

They have each trained ex­tremely hard to get to this point and are now recog­nised Dan hold­ers with the World Taek­wondo Fed­er­a­tion.

Head in­struc­tor Vicky Gil­lam - 4th Dan as­sessed the stu­dents for their belts.

Arthur first be­gan train­ing in Taek­wondo at the age of four and joined the Whit­sun­day Taek­wondo Oh Do Kwan Club as a pre­lim­i­nary black belt.

In Oc­to­ber of 2010 he passed his first Dan grad­ing and when work com­mit­ments have al­lowed, has been an as­sis­tant in­struc­tor with the club for the past two years.

Hodges also started train­ing at the age of four in Western Aus­tralia, and took up the sport again when he was 12.

Bowie started with Whit­sun­day Taek­wondo Oh Do Kwan as a white belt in 2010 and is the first stu­dent from the club to achieve his black belt.

HIGH­EST HON­OUR: Bowie Hodges (1st Dan) and Jar­rad Arthur (2nd Dan) were graded to black belt at Whit­sun­day Taek­wondo Oh Do Kwan's re­cent grad­ing.
