Young athletes compete in Mackay
TEN athletes from the Whitsunday Athletics Club travelled to Mackay on the weekend to compete at the North Mackay Little Athletics Pentathlon.
All these athletes competed in five different track and field events, held throughout the day of competition.
Matthew Smith, Bethany Poles and Zachary Connell-Teakle were presented with participation medals and a goody bag.
Sahra Donnelly and Erin Hungerford were awarded second place in their age group and Jim Smith claimed third place in his age group.
These athletes received a trophy and a goody bag for all their hard work.
Zoe Connell-Teakle, Amy Hungerford, Bethany Poles and Emily Poles were also impressive as they performed well in their respective age groups.
It was a great day of competition especially for the Poles family who did a wonderful job in their first away carnival.
Club president Judi Worrall was very pleased with the efforts from all the competing athletes.
“It was lovely to see the smiles on the athletes’ faces throughout the day”, she said.
Anyone wanting more information about the club and it’s competitions should contact Judi Worrall on 0400 138 446.
The club is hosting a kid’s course this Saturday and Sunday at their clubhouse located in Stanbury Street, Proserpine.
This course will benefit children over 14 years, parents and teachers alike who are interested in getting involved with athletics.
They will learn the basics on training and development principles, and the organisation of kid’s athletics competitions.
During the second day of the course (Sunday) there will be a free kids competition for ages 413 from 1-3pm.
