Helping BMX riders go to world championships
A SPECIAL fundraising event will be held at the Bingo Whitsundays session at the Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) clubhouse tonight (Thursday).
The event will raise funds for Taylor Kerr and Kira Allan from Proserpine BMX Club to help them get to the UCI World Championships in New Zealand next month.
Both girls finished in the top 16 at the 2013 National BMX Championships in Brisbane earlier this year to qualify for the world championships.
The girls also competed in the 2013 Queensland Country event at the Proserpine BMX track on the weekend with Taylor finishing first in the girls 13-years division and Kira achieving second place in the Pro Women’s event.
Run by Whitsunday locals Sabrina Mitchell and Kerry Cooper, the bingo nights are held every Thursday evening with funds donated to local causes.
Doors open at 6pm every Thursday night, with “eyes down” at 7pm sharp.
Tickets start at $16.50 with cash prizes including jackpots of $200, $10 and $50 and a $90 lucky numbers board.
