Lo­cal li­braries to host ABC Open Work­shops

PHO­TOG­RA­PHERS, writ­ers and film mak­ers are in­vited to at­tend free ABC Open Work­shops hosted by Whit­sun­day Re­gional Coun­cil li­braries next week.

Mayor Jennifer Whit­ney said the ABC Open Work­shops were a per­fect op­por­tu­nity for ev­ery­day peo­ple to pur­sue their in­ter­est in writ­ing or pho­tog­ra­phy.

“If you love tak­ing pho­tos or telling a story, I would en­cour­age you to get in­volved with this fan­tas­tic pro­gram,” she said.

Writ­ers in­ter­ested in hav­ing their sto­ries pub­lished on­line can en­ter the 500 words pro­ject and see it pub­lished on the ABC web­site. Those want­ing to in­crease their on­line port­fo­lio in pho­tog­ra­phy or film-mak­ing can en­ter in the snapped pro­ject.

Mackay ABC Open jour­nal­ist Dan Bat­t­ley will be on hand monthly at the Proser­pine, Beach and Bowen li­braries to as­sist peo­ple with in­di­vid­ual projects.

Beach Li­brary team leader Kerry Dor­man said the li­braries were keen to pro­vide fur­ther op­por­tu­ni­ties to as­sist the com­mu­nity to con­nect to the dig­i­tal age.

“As well as your pro­ject be­ing uploaded to ABC Open, it could fea­ture across the ABC ra­dio on ra­dio, TV or on­line,” she said.
