Celebrity junior chefs inspire kids at BIG4
JUNIOR MasterChef contestants Isabella and Sofia Bliss have delighted children at the BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort with their week of Kids in the Kitchen cooking workshops, from June 28-July 4.
The twin sisters, now aged 15, appeared on the first series of Junior MasterChef in 2010 where they inspired a national audience of young people to start cooking. At the end of the series, Isabella was crowned Australia’s first Junior MasterChef, while Sofia made it to the top four.
The girls’ mother, Sylvana Spina, said they realised how fortunate they were and had been making the most of all the opportunities afforded to them, including a recent trip to South Africa, where the series was screened at the end of last year.
“It’s been wonderful for the girls to have all these experiences and we were excited to come up here as well. It’s lovely,” she said.
Speaking from the BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort camp kitchen last week, Sofia said it was great to get other young people interested in cooking.
“We were taught to cook, so it’s good to share our knowledge with other kids,” she said. Isabella agreed. “It’s a really nice feeling when you make something that you always cook at home and people tell you it’s delicious,” she said.
The girls said one of their recent highlights was meeting celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay while in South Africa.
“He was actually really nice to us,” Sofia said.
As for the Whitsundays, the girls said visiting the reef and taking a crocodile safari were some of the most memorable parts of their stay.
“And the [BIG4] park is like a holiday in itself,” Isabella said.
The girls held 10 cooking workshops during their stay, demonstrating some of their favourite dishes and homemade recipies that featured on the popular television show.
