Rigging night a success

Whitsunday Times - - REELIN’ IN -

THE free rigging night held last Friday at the VMR was a success, with about 45 people turning up to the informative evening.

The event, hosted by the Whitsunday Game Fish Club, was aimed at assisting participants in this weekend’s Mackerel Challenge by providing rigging and fishing techniques specifically for catching mackerel.

Bob Spees gave a very useful demonstration on rigging baits, advice on tides and where to best catch the fish.

A representative from the fisheries gave a talk on how to identify mackerel species.

The evening was free for the public in the lead up to the Mackerel Challenge this weekend, which organisers say should see about 50-60 people targeting the popular species.

The competition is open to everyone. Anglers can register at the VMR from 6.30pm Friday night. Call Whitsunday Game Fish Club president Ash Warland on 0413 628 899 for more information.
