Pen­nants glory for Air­lie men

AIR­LIE BOWLS

AIR­LIE’S mens team scooped the pool at pen­nants win­ning the Di­vi­sion 4 com­pe­ti­tion from some of the dis­trict’s top teams.

On Sun­day the men’s pen­nant teams played at North Mackay and won and on Sun­day they won against Proser­pine at home. Th­ese wins mean they won the over­all pen­nant com­pe­ti­tion.

The ladies had a great game of bowls on Tues­day with 20 bowlers played 21 ends.

The win­ners were Judy Chen­gody, Jenny Ry­der, Doreen White­house and Di Dob­bin.

The Air­lie ladies won against North Mackay com­fort­ably in the morn­ing and in the af­ter­noon they lost against Seaforth by three points.

On Wed­nes­day the men played so­cial bowls and again, the jackpot did not go off.

Triples were played on three rinks and the win­ners were Eric Bot­tle, Ge­off Hoare and James Argo, beat­ing John For­nasiero, Ken Ry­der and Keith Dunn 25/20.

On the next rink Ge­off Wark, Nik Fern­bach and Jim Cairns de­feated David Stock, Dom Sposato and Ron Spence 30-13 and on the last rink Howard Moulang Peter Lawton, Col Howes and Jeff New­man de­feated Ted Evans, Steve Tat­tam and Herb Se­comb 28-17.

There was no busi­ness house bowls last week as the State of Ori­gin was on but the se­ries was back to nor­mal last night.

Bare­foot bowls on Fri­day night had a good show with 24 bowlers play­ing.

So­cial bowls also had a good show of bowlers with vis­i­tors David and Robyn Chap­man and Betty and Tony White­horn join­ing the club for a game of bowls.

The club also wel­comed back one of their dili­gent bowlers, Rae Hodg­son from New Zealand, who is here for three weeks.

The win­ners for the day were Doreen White­house, Nik Fern­bach and Shane Kin­n­ear against Wally Gray, Howard Moulang and Ron Spence, 17-7, on the next rink Keith Beetham, Robyn Chap­man and Tony White­horn who de­feated Mau­reen Barnard, Noela White­head and Ken Ry­der 17-7.

Betty Hol­ness, Dom Sposato and David Zim­mer­man de­feated Mar­garet Heeney, Richard White­house and David Chap­man 15-9 and on the last green San­dra Argo, Rae Hodg­son and Mae Se­comb de­feated Betty White­horn, James Argo and Doreen Peadon 15-9.

Mem­bers are asked to cel­e­brate the men’s pen­nant win by join­ing them at the club house on Sun­day, July 14 for one of Gra­ham’s top roasts.

A book­ing sheet is on the front ta­ble at the club.
