Pennants glory for Airlie men
AIRLIE’S mens team scooped the pool at pennants winning the Division 4 competition from some of the district’s top teams.
On Sunday the men’s pennant teams played at North Mackay and won and on Sunday they won against Proserpine at home. These wins mean they won the overall pennant competition.
The ladies had a great game of bowls on Tuesday with 20 bowlers played 21 ends.
The winners were Judy Chengody, Jenny Ryder, Doreen Whitehouse and Di Dobbin.
The Airlie ladies won against North Mackay comfortably in the morning and in the afternoon they lost against Seaforth by three points.
On Wednesday the men played social bowls and again, the jackpot did not go off.
Triples were played on three rinks and the winners were Eric Bottle, Geoff Hoare and James Argo, beating John Fornasiero, Ken Ryder and Keith Dunn 25/20.
On the next rink Geoff Wark, Nik Fernbach and Jim Cairns defeated David Stock, Dom Sposato and Ron Spence 30-13 and on the last rink Howard Moulang Peter Lawton, Col Howes and Jeff Newman defeated Ted Evans, Steve Tattam and Herb Secomb 28-17.
There was no business house bowls last week as the State of Origin was on but the series was back to normal last night.
Barefoot bowls on Friday night had a good show with 24 bowlers playing.
Social bowls also had a good show of bowlers with visitors David and Robyn Chapman and Betty and Tony Whitehorn joining the club for a game of bowls.
The club also welcomed back one of their diligent bowlers, Rae Hodgson from New Zealand, who is here for three weeks.
The winners for the day were Doreen Whitehouse, Nik Fernbach and Shane Kinnear against Wally Gray, Howard Moulang and Ron Spence, 17-7, on the next rink Keith Beetham, Robyn Chapman and Tony Whitehorn who defeated Maureen Barnard, Noela Whitehead and Ken Ryder 17-7.
Betty Holness, Dom Sposato and David Zimmerman defeated Margaret Heeney, Richard Whitehouse and David Chapman 15-9 and on the last green Sandra Argo, Rae Hodgson and Mae Secomb defeated Betty Whitehorn, James Argo and Doreen Peadon 15-9.
Members are asked to celebrate the men’s pennant win by joining them at the club house on Sunday, July 14 for one of Graham’s top roasts.
A booking sheet is on the front table at the club.
