Proser­pine teams shine at Sugar Bowl

THE Sugar Bowl was held in Home Hill and Ayr over the Queen’s birth­day long week­end and the Proser­pine Ten­nis Club had three teams en­ter this year’s in­vi­ta­tion only event.

There were two male teams and one fe­male team.

Kyle Large cap­tained the teams of Christopher Harvey, Matt Bluck, Tony Stumer, Josh Dobe, Jack Jor­dan and Trent Mur­ray.

Trent Mur­ray was on fire and recorded a per­fect 10 from 10 set wins as the team fin­ished sixth in the A2 di­vi­sion, los­ing a close bat­tle to the other Proser­pine team cap­tained by Gary Scot­ford by 41-37.

Scot­ford’s team of Kent Bell, Tom Bell, An­drew Scot­ford, Lay­ton Mitchell and Michael Just won the A1 di­vi­sion with some great ten­nis played by all team mem­bers.

The fe­male team fin­ished sec­ond in the A2 di­vi­sion this year as team cap­tain El­speth Scot­ford led Lynn Mor­shead, Sandy Botes, BJ McDon­ald, Grace Fry, Katie Bell and Liz Jones.

Thurs­day night fix­tures for sea­son one wrapped up last week with the team of Keith Fork­nall, Bre­ana Chauntler, Gary Scot­ford, Al­lan Trinder, An­drew Mau, Lay­ton Mitchell, Je­nine Gardel and Josh Dobe crowned cham­pi­ons.

This team fin­ished on 531 games fol­lowed by Gavin Milne’s team on 474 games, Howard Lawn’s team on 473 games and Glen Botes’ team on 460 games.

Sea­son two for 2013 A grade fix­tures starts on Thurs­day, July 11 with two weeks of grad­ings for any­one that would like to come along. There will be a B grade Wed­nes­day night com­pe­ti­tion this com­ing sea­son. For in­for­ma­tion con­tact club pres­i­dent Christopher Harvey on 0429 451 517.
