Proserpine teams shine at Sugar Bowl
THE Sugar Bowl was held in Home Hill and Ayr over the Queen’s birthday long weekend and the Proserpine Tennis Club had three teams enter this year’s invitation only event.
There were two male teams and one female team.
Kyle Large captained the teams of Christopher Harvey, Matt Bluck, Tony Stumer, Josh Dobe, Jack Jordan and Trent Murray.
Trent Murray was on fire and recorded a perfect 10 from 10 set wins as the team finished sixth in the A2 division, losing a close battle to the other Proserpine team captained by Gary Scotford by 41-37.
Scotford’s team of Kent Bell, Tom Bell, Andrew Scotford, Layton Mitchell and Michael Just won the A1 division with some great tennis played by all team members.
The female team finished second in the A2 division this year as team captain Elspeth Scotford led Lynn Morshead, Sandy Botes, BJ McDonald, Grace Fry, Katie Bell and Liz Jones.
Thursday night fixtures for season one wrapped up last week with the team of Keith Forknall, Breana Chauntler, Gary Scotford, Allan Trinder, Andrew Mau, Layton Mitchell, Jenine Gardel and Josh Dobe crowned champions.
This team finished on 531 games followed by Gavin Milne’s team on 474 games, Howard Lawn’s team on 473 games and Glen Botes’ team on 460 games.
