Club cham­pi­onships com­ing to a close

PROSER­PINE BOWLS

ON WED­NES­DAY the fi­nal of the club cham­pi­onship sin­gles was played be­tween Joan McGrath and An­nette Pat­ullo.

McGrath held her nerve in the fi­nal to claim a 25-14 win.

In so­cial play on Wed­nes­day Lau­rie Brew (vis­i­tor from Coon­abarabran), Cathy Holmes and Joy Jef­fries de­feated Jo Peasley, Pep­per Evans (vis­i­tor from Coon­abarabran) and Heather Pat­ullo 2019 and Fran Porter, Mor­ris Hulme (vis­i­tor from New Zealand), Joyce Pat­ullo and Heather Brown de­feated Janet Mortimer, Amy Hart, Betty Evans (vis­i­tor from Coon­abarabran) and Jack Davis (vis­i­tor from Melbourne) 28-18.

The ladies last day of pen­nants was on Thurs­day at North Mackay and they had an over­all loss 24-59 earn­ing no match points mi­nus 35.

Ma­ree Daf­fara’s team were de­feated 8-34 and Joan McGrath’s team were de­feated 16-25.

Over the en­tire com­pe­ti­tion they scored 9 match points plus a mar­gin of 18.

The team fin­ished run­ners-up in di­vi­sion 3 with Seaforth win­ning the di­vi­sion.

Yes­ter­day the in­ter-town shield was played at Proser­pine.

The fi­nal of the B sin­gles will be played on Wed­nes­day, July 17 be­tween Amy Hart and Dell McCor­mack, (marker Heather Brown) as will the fi­nal of the club cham­pi­onship pairs be­tween Jo Peasley and Joan McGrath against Lois Read and Dot Hin­schen.

The fi­nal of the club cham­pi­onship triples is on Wed­nes­day, July 24 with Noelie Dibben, Pam Selmes and Gail Camm play­ing Mar­garet Rus­sell, June Blair and Dot Hin­schen.

Also com­ing up on Thurs­day, July 18 at St Helen’s is the Friend­ship Shield.

The team for the Friend­ship Shield is Lois Read, Heather Pat­ullo, Gail Camm, Ma­ree Daf­fara, Noelie Dibben, Flo O’Han­lon, Heather Brown, Joan McGrath, Jo Peasley, Joy Jef­fries, June Blair and Dot Hin­schen.

The team for the John­ston Shield be­ing played at Sa­rina on Tues­day, July 23 against Seaforth is Joan McGrath (sin­gles), Gail Camm and Dot Hin­schen (pairs) and Lois Read, June Blair, Heather Brown and Ma­ree Daf­fara (fours).

On Satur­day, there were three games of sin­gles played.

In the semi-fi­nal of the B sin­gles Todd Leys de­feated John Hen­der­son 25-21 and in the sec­ond semi-fi­nal of the se­nior sin­gles Kevin Thoro­good de­feated Kevin Duell 25-11.

In the first game of the mixed sin­gles Heather Brown de­feated Matthew Camm 25-12.

On Sun­day in so­cial bowls Trudy Hanne, Rob Tay­lor and Joy Jef­fries de­feated Ron Nor­man (lo­cal vis­i­tor), Jeanette Cal­way and Kevin Thoro­good 22-11, Noelie Dibben and Philip Brown de­feated Trevor Tre­vil­lian (vis­i­tor from Bate­man’s Bay) and Heather Brown 22-17 and Arthur Wil­liams and Dot Hin­schen de­feated Jo Peasley and Ma­ree Daf­fara 21-18.

In the other game John Hen­der­son de­feated Janet Mortimer 25-15.

Some of the men’s teams went away to Bowen to play in one of their an­nual car­ni­vals.

It was won by a team from Townsville, with North Mackay sec­ond and Shane Spann’s team from Proser­pine com­ing third.

This Satur­day at 9.30am the club cham­pi­onship fours semi-fi­nals are on with Kevin Duell, Dean Love­lock, Shane Kin­n­ear and Ross Reville tak­ing on Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamil­ton, Michael Kin­n­ear and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear; and Ben Cutrone, Brian Pearce, Scott Kin­n­ear and Barry Saroglia play­ing Philip Brown, Martin Corr, Rob Tay­lor and Barry Zill­mann. The fi­nal will be played in the af­ter­noon. Also to be played on Satur­day af­ter­noon with a 1.30pm start is the mixed sin­gles game be­tween Ma­ree Daf­fara and Shane Spann and the sec­ond semi-fi­nal of the B sin­gles be­tween Matthew Camm and Arthur Wil­liams (marker John Hen­der­son).

There may also be the mixed sin­gles games, sub­ject to the re­sults of the morn­ing’s fours games.

This Satur­day the club is putting on a light cel­e­bra­tion lun­cheon at the club for all pen­nants play­ers.

On Sun­day, July 14 at 1.30pm club cham­pi­onship pairs will be played be­tween Dean Love­lock, Shane Kin­n­ear, Brian Pearce and Barry Saroglia.
