Airlie Imports claim back-to-back titles
AIRLIE Imports have successfully retained the Whitsunday five-aside indoor football title after an emphatic 15-0 victory over the A-team in last week’s grand final.
In doing so the team created history by going through the entire campaign unbeaten and becoming the first team to claim the trophy back-to-back.
After a competitive opening, where both teams traded chances, Airlie Imports took a half time lead of 3-0.
It wasn't until the second half when the Imports started to assert their dominance with some breathtaking attacks and strong defending to run out comfortable 15-0 winners on the night.
The Cops A team impressed in their first season for finishing third in their first ever tournament after WOPs forfeited the playoff game.
The next five-aside indoor football competition will be held later this year and anyone interested should contact the Whitsunday PCYC for more information.
INDOOR CHMPIONS: Brendan ‘Jesus’ Cook, Rhodri ‘the hand’ Jones, Ben ‘Wombat’ Smith (back), Dan ‘the painter’ Skinner, Mark ‘Irish’ Killian and Billy ‘Packer’ Kirkness from the Airlie Imports romped home to a big win in the indoor soccer final last week.
