A TOTAL of 59 students from both the Airlie Beach and Proserpine clubs were assessed for their next belt level at the first gup (coloured belt) grading for the year late last month.

There were 22 tigers (students aged 4-7), 29 juniors (ages 7-12) and 8 seniors (aged 13+) – who all successfully passed and advanced to their next level or gup.

The grading was conducted by head instructor and examiner, Vicky Gillam – 4th dan black belt, and assisted by 1st dan black belt instructors Jim and Bowie Hodges.

All the students have worked extremely hard to get to this stage in their training and there were some notable achievements on the day.

There was a direct promotion to 9th gup for Sam Rogers and Rhyanna Zonruiter and double promotions for Josh Jarvis, Josh Smith and Sam Cretan.

Also double grading were seniors Helen Sheehy and Sheridan Faletti.

The best grading awards were awarded to Tyler Greenhill, Sam Cretan and Fyodor Roganov for the tigers and Sam Rogers, Josh Jarvis, Zachary Foote and AJ Shoesmith.
