Raiders edge out Kuttabul in thriller
A THRILLING one point win over the previously undefeated Kuttabul Camelboks on Saturday has the Proserpine-Whitsunday Raiders primed for a big finish to the season.
The 18-17 win came in front of Kuttabul’s home fans and was built on a solid platform of defence and tries to Marc Kellett and Brook Cadwallader.
A tightly-contested first half yielded no tries as the Raiders managed to head into the break up by 6-3 thanks to two penalty goals from fullback Martin Roveda.
The games score line became busy changing for the first 15 minutes of the second half when Kuttabul scored one of two soft tries in the 43rd minute that converted took them to a 10-6 lead. Three minutes later the Raiders ploughed their way to the ‘Boks try line and shortly after flying Englishman Marc Kellett stretched the lead to 18-10 and despite a late try the Raiders held on for a memorable victory.
This Saturday the A grade team hosts Mackay Brothers at 5.30pm while the reserves have the bye.
