Cannonvale school welcomes principal to permanent role
CANNONVALE State School has extended a warm welcome to Angie Kelly as its permanent principal.
Ms Kelly, who has been acting in the role for the past six months, officially took up permanent employment just two weeks before the end of the last school term.
She was welcomed with open arms by the school and the wider community at an afternoon tea last Wednesday, hosted by P&C committee members and attended by representatives from state, federal and local government and past and present members of staff.
Ms Kelly, who came from a school at Merinda with about 60 children, said the move to Cannonvale State School with its 575 kids had been “huge”, not to mention six months of commuting and being away from her husband Lee Ivers and children Katie (7) and Ben (9).
The family has now moved to the area with the children attending Cannonvale State School.
“The welcome and the support that I’ve received from absolutely every single person at Cannonvale State School and beyond in this community, has nearly left me in tears quite a lot – it’s been overwhelming,” she said.
Already, Ms Kelly has moved into what she calls “phase two”.
“Right now, I know that Cannonvale’s going to go from strength to strength so look out, because we’ve got some really, really big things [ahead] and an incredibly bright future,” she said.
Ms Kelly said her biggest goal was to see the school achieve “outstanding” results in the teaching and learning orders in the coming years.
“I see us, in a couple of years, being highly competitive as one of the most outstanding schools in the state,” she said.
P&C president Sonia Zadeber- nyj said what many people within the school community liked about their new principal was her outgoing nature and willingness to become involved.
“Her contagious enthusiasm has been very well received by staff and the parent community,” Ms Zadebernyj said.
WARM WELCOME: Zoe Skinner, Lee Ivers, Angie Kelly, Ben and Katie Ivers, Merewyn Wright, Sonia Zadebernyj, Pam Graham and Elizabeth Harding, at last week's welcome to Angie Kelly as the permanent principal of Cannonvale State School.
