Power out in Proserpine

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

LIGHT rain last Wednesday was the cause of an electricity interruption leaving 2157 customers between Proserpine and Calen without power.

Ergon Energy corporate communications manager Bob Pleash said power was lost at 9.48pm but the majority of customers from the Calen end were restored within minutes.

“However, there were 780 customers that were off line until about 4am while repairs were carried out to a damaged power pole,” he said. Mr Pleash said about 30 customers in the Lethebrook area were not reinstated until roughly 5am due to issues on the supply line between Lethebrook and Proserpine.

Light rain can sometimes cause problems to power pole insulators where dust and contaminants collect. Mr Pleash said in this case, the damage occurred on a power pole near Lethebrook.
