Council’s deficit

Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

THE Whitsunday Regional Council had a $5million dollar deficit a few months ago that changed to a $40million dollar deficit and more recently was altered to a $15 to $20 million dollar deficit.

Last week, the CEO, Scott Waters disclosed a further $5 million dollar blowout of the budget after an internal audit showed the Council was short of $25 million and not $20 million as they had previously calculated. Could the atrocious financial debacle be attributed to the CEO, Scott Waters who came to the Council with no previous Local Government experience and no financial qualifications at all. The Council CEO, Scott Waters has publically criticized, as he put it, ‘financial wizards” for putting their take on Council’s position. Is this the pot calling the kettle black?
