Local raffle winner takes home $6000 in prizes
A JUBILEE Pocket resident is looking forward to booking a family holiday to Daydream Island and a Whitsunday sailing charter for her 40th birthday after winning the Centro Whitsunday ultimate raffle with more than $6000 in prizes on Thursday last week.
Saro Kelly, a mother of two, won after she purchased $100 in raffle tickets to help raise funds for the local children’s ward at Proserpine Hospital via SeaFM’s Give Me 5 For Kids appeal.
Mrs Kelly said she was going to make a $100 donation to the appeal but decided to try her luck in the raffle at the last minute.
“I have two little girls who were both born at Proserpine Hospital and I was always looking for an opportunity to give something back to them because the staff are just fantastic,” she said.
The 2013 Centro Whitsunday raffle prizes included a holiday to Daydream Island, beauty packs, a family reef trip, a single day sailing charter, massages and even a portrait sitting.
Centre manager of Centro Whitsunday George Wade said helping the community was part of their philosophy as a community shopping centre.
“We always assist charities that fundraise for our kids and the Give Me 5 For Kids charity was the perfect fit for us to get involved and help the community,” he said.
All funds raised through the SeaFM’s Give Me 5 For Kids appeal will be donated to the children’s wards at Proserpine and Mackay Hospitals.
Proserpine Hospital will be using the funds to purchase items from their wish list which included thermometers, a vaccination esky to help immunise children at school and an $8000 Kanmed Warmer baby mattress that helps keep premature and newborn babies warm.
SeaFM promotions manager Liana Ladner thanked all participating retailers, businesses, volunteers and the local community for participating in the fundraiser.
RAFFLE WINNER: Centro manager George Wade presented $6000 in prizes to Jubilee Pocket resident Saro Kelly and her two daughters Myka, 1, and Brina, 4, with the help of Stacey Kruger on behalf of SeaFM's Give Me 5 for Kids charity appeal.
