PROSER­PINE BOWLS

PROSER­PINE re­tained the in­ter-town shield on the week­end when winds for­tu­nately held off the rain un­til af­ter the day’s play was com­pleted.

All games were fiercely com­pet­i­tive and played in great spirit.

Proser­pine re­tained the shield win­ning this year’s con­test by two match points, four rink wins plus 40.

Wan­garatta came sec­ond with one match win, four rink wins mi­nus 2 and St He­lens came third with 0 match wins, 1 rink win mi­nus 38.

There were also two games of so­cial bowls played in the af­ter­noon where Cathy Holmes and Flo O’Han­lon de­feated May Davy and Bar­bara Dam­mash 5-4 in a short game of 3 bowl pairs. Trudy Hanne, Arthur Wil­liams and Pep­per Evans (vis­i­tor from Coon­abarabran) de­feated Fran Porter, Betty Evans (vis­i­tor from Coon­abarabran) and Trevor Tre­vil­lian (vis­i­tor from Bate­man’s Bay) 23-12.

On Wed­nes­day, July 24 the fi­nal of the club cham­pi­onship triples will be played with Noelie Dibben, Pam Selmes and Gail Camm tak­ing on Mar­garet Rus­sell, June Blair and Dot Hin­schen.

On Thurs­day, July 18 Proser­pine will be trav­el­ling to St Helen’s to con­test the an­nual Friend­ship Shield from 1pm.

The team se­lected is Lois Read, Heather Pat­ullo, Gail Camm, Ma­ree Daf­fara, Noelie Dibben, Flo O’Han­lon, Heather Brown, Joan McGrath, Jo Peasley, Joy Jef­fries, June Blair and Dot Hin­schen.

The team for the John­ston Shield has also been se­lected with Joan McGrath in the sin­gles, Gail Camm and Dot Hin­schen in the pairs and Lois Read, June Blair, Heather Brown and Ma­ree Daf­fara in the fours.

The first game is against Seaforth at Sa­rina on Tues­day, July 23 at 1pm and win­ners of th­ese games progress to the semi-fi­nal at Sa­rina on Thurs­day, July 25.

Mon­day, July 29 is the Whit­sun­day Car­ni­val and teams need to reg­is­ter as soon as pos­si­ble for this fours event.

Mem­bers are asked to re­mem­ber to bring in two cent sales for the day.

De­spite the in­ter­mit­tent show­ers, the full draw of mens games was played this week­end.

On Satur­day morn­ing, both semi fi­nals of the cham­pi­onship fours were played where Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamil­ton, Michael Kin­n­ear and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear de­feated Kevin Duell, Dean Love­lock, Shane Kin­n­ear and Ross Reville 23-6 and Ben Cutrone, Brian Pearce, Scott Kin­n­ear and Barry Saroglia de­feated Philip Brown, Martin Corr, Rob Tay­lor and Barry Zill­mann 19-12.

The fi­nal was played in the af­ter­noon and Ben Cutrone, Brian Pearce, Scott Kin­n­ear and Barry Saroglia de­feated Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamil­ton, Michael Kin­n­ear and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear 35-15. Also on Satur­day af­ter­noon there were three games of mixed sin­gles played.

Wayne Han­d­ley de­feated Ross Reville 25-11, Dean Love­lock de­feated Philip Brown 2517 and Ma­ree Daf­fara de­feated Shane Spann 25-20.

On Sun­day af­ter­noon in a game of club cham­pi­onship pairs Dean Love­lock and Shane Kin­n­ear de­feated Bryan Davy (sub for Brian Pearce) and Barry Saroglia 18-16.

There was one game of so­cial bowls on Sun­day af­ter­noon where Arthur Wil­liams and Man­fred Krug (vis­i­tor from Fin­ley) de­feated Fran Porter and Trevor Tre­vil­lian (vis­i­tor from Bate­man’s Bay) 26-14.

This Satur­day at 9.30am both semi-fi­nals of the club cham­pi­onship pairs are on with Ben Cutrone and Scott Kin­n­ear play­ing Nathan Dodds and Scott Hamil­ton and Michael Kin­n­ear and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear tak­ing on Dean Love­lock and Shane Kin­n­ear.

The fi­nal will be played at 1.30pm with the win­ners of the morn­ing games.

Also at 1.30pm is the B sin­gles semi-fi­nal be­tween Matthew Camm and Arthur Wil­liams (marker John Hen­der­son).

This Sun­day at 1.30pm start Philip and Heather Brown play Matthew and Gail Camm in the mixed pairs and Janet Mortimer and Kevin Thoro­good take on Joan McGrath and Shane Spann.
