Lit­tle ath­letes en­joy mod­i­fied games

A MEET for the Whit­sun­day Ath­letic Club still went ahead de­spite the wet weather con­di­tions on Sun­day.

Over the school hol­i­day sev­eral par­ents in the club com­pleted a course in IAAF kids ath­let­ics, which is a team event for chil­dren of all ages.

The main ob­jec­tive of this course was to en­cour­age chil­dren to play and use up their en­ergy in or­der to stay healthy and fit.

Th­ese var­i­ous events are age group spe­cific and each has a time limit so they can ro­tate to each event ac­cord­ingly.

Team­work is a ba­sic prin­ci­ple of IAAF Kids Ath­let­ics.

On Sun­day the chil­dren took part in ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing skip­ping, fris­bee throw­ing, over­head back­ward throw­ing, knee throw­ing, cross hop­ping, for­mula one and to fin­ish off the day eight minute en­durance races.

The chil­dren had a won­der­ful time com­pet­ing in teams through­out the morn­ing.

The wet weather didn’t af­fect the club and the mod­i­fied ath­let­ics cir­cuit was well re­ceived over the week­end.

Train­ing is on Wed­nes­day ev­ery week at 3.45pm at Stan­bury Street, Proser­pine (Proser­pine High School grounds) un­til 5pm and club days are on ev­ery Sun­day at 9am.

Ath­let­ics is for all ages new mem­bers are al­ways wel­come.
