Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

A 59-YEAR-OLD French tourist died while snorkelling during a day trip on the Cruise Whitsundays vessel Camira last week.

Whitsunday police acting senior sergeant Si- mon Walter, said the man died between 11am-12pm on Thursday, July 18.

Police from the Whitsunday Station were transported to Dumbell Island to begin their investigation that afternoon.

Police officers and officers from Maritime Sa- fety Queensland also attended the vessel when it docked at Abell Point Marina later in the day.

Act Snr Sgt Walter said there were no suspicious circumstances.

The matter had been referred to the coroner to determine the cause of death.

Cruise Whitsundays CEO Peter O’Reilly said the company was undertaking its own internal investigations and co-operating with those of the authorities.

“And all of us are waiting for a report from the coroner to determine the cause of death,” he said.
