Full week of celebrations
St Catherine’s embrace Catholic Education Week with fun activities
ST CATHERINE’S Catholic College is one of 296 Catholic schools in Queensland that are celebrating Catholic Education Week this week.
Both senior and junior campus principals David Burke and Sharyn Bell have been busy preparing for the annual Catholic Education Week activities that follow this year’s theme, Making a Difference – Inspired by Jesus.
Senior campus principal David Burke said students enjoyed participating in a fun run organised by the school’s Parents and Friend’s Association and mass with Father Bill, parents and parish community members on Monday.
“It was a wonderful op- portunity to welcome St Mary’s School from Bowen to be a part of our celebrations for Catholic education in the Whitsundays,” he said.
St Catherine’s is a part of the Catholic Diocese of Townsville and offered year 8 for the first time this year.
It is the first time Catholic secondary education has been available in the Whitsundays.
Townsville Bishop Most Reverend Michael Putney said Catholic Education Week was an opportunity to show appreciation to the Catholic school’s dedicated staff and celebrate what they have achieved.
Catholic education director Dr Cathy Day will visit the school this week.
“Social justice and community outreach is one of the cornerstones of a Catholic education and helps to shape our students to become compassionate and contributing members of society,” she said.
“I am extremely proud of our catholic education community in Townsville Diocese and the work they do to make a difference, inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
St Catherine’s Catholic College is currently taking enrolments for year 8 and year 9 for next year with interviews being held from August 5-16.
