Lions wel­comes their new lead­ers

DO­NA­TIONS to the lo­cal com­mu­nity to­talling $77,500 and the suc­cess of the Whit­sun­day Lions Air­lie Beach Com­mu­nity Mar­kets were among the many high­lights of the Whit­sun­day Lions Club’s last 12 months.

War­wick McAl­lis­ter is the new pres­i­dent and was in­ducted in front of a crowd of 40 peo­ple at the Whit­sun­day Lions 42nd an­nual changeover lun­cheon at the Vol­un­teer Marine Res­cue Club last month.

Mr McAl­lis­ter has been a mem­ber of the club for al­most two decades and this is the first time he has been in­ducted as pres­i­dent.

Past Dis­trict Gover­nor Tom Becker from Mackay Host Lions Club was a spe­cial guest and com­pleted the in­stal­la­tion of new board mem­bers for the Whit­sun­day Lions Club 2013/2014.

Out­go­ing pres­i­dent Alan Brown­ing awarded Whit­sun­day Lions pres­i­dent awards to mem­bers Robina Mealey, Helen Toy and Alan Grav­elle for their sup­port and valu­able con­tri­bu­tion to var­i­ous projects over the last 12 months.

The Lion of the Year award was pre­sented to Glo­ria De­mar­tini for her out­stand­ing work and sup­port of the Youth of the Year pro­ject.

In­com­ing trea­surer Sue Grav­elle said the changeover marked the end of an­other very suc­cess­ful year for the Whit­sun­day Lions Club which in­cluded the do­na­tion of $77,500 to var­i­ous com­mu­nity groups.

She said the club was look­ing for­ward to con­tin­u­ing their great fel­low­ship to­gether.
