Del­e­gates ex­pe­ri­ence re­gion

THIRTY-FIVE young peo­ple from 15 dif­fer­ent coun­tries were at the Peter Faust Dam in Proser­pine on Satur­day as the Lions Youth Ex­change camp kicked off.

The camp be­gan with an in­tro­duc­tory bar­be­cue and day of fun on the wa­ter with mem­bers from the Proser­pine Lions, Bowen Lions and Proser­pine Lionesses do­nat­ing their time to help run the camp.

Camp di­rec­tor Sue Rid­dick said ev­ery­one in­volved got a lot out of the camp.

“They are a ter­rific bunch of kids and it’s great that they will get to ex­pe­ri­ence Proser­pine and the Whit­sun- days this week. The camp is the cul­mi­na­tion of their three-week stay in Aus­tralia where they have been hosted by a num­ber of fam­i­lies right across Aus­tralia.” The campers will be vis­it­ing the Great Bar­rier Reef, Con­way National Park, White­haven Beach and Bowen as well as spend­ing time in Proser­pine.

Proser­pine Lions mem­ber Damien Mott said the youth were cho­sen by their re­spec­tive Lions clubs around the world.

“Lions camps are held all over the world and the in­ter­na­tional youth ex­change camp is a great chance to show off our area.”

AROUND THE WORLD: Damien Mott, Loris Baraldi, Sue Rud­dick, Ryan God­ing, Line McBride (back), He­lene Caspersen, Eline Om­meganck and Mur­ray Dale are part of the week-long youth ex­change.
