Scotford wins monthly medal
SATURDAY’S monthly Metropole Hotel stableford event saw only 28 players turn out with most of the A grade players away at Townsville’s Rowes Bay for the district pennants.
The team finished runnersup to the very strong Townsville team.
Meanwhile in Proserpine it was Gary Scotford burning up the course to take out the local event with a fine 39 points, one ahead of runnerup Kevin Duffy.
The rundown comprised Paul Lennon and Trevor Paroz on 37, John Roser with 36 points, and Ken Muller, Paul Douthwaite, Neil Cawthorne and Dave Gates all with 35.
Nearest-the-pins went to John Dodds on hole 2, Gary Scotford on 9, Brad Hammond on 13 and for the second week running Dave Thomas on 16.
The ladies event was taken out by Paula Wronski on 28 points.
The two-shot club didn’t go off and will jackpot to next week.
Peter Fox dominated the Thursday stableford event to take out the 18-hole win with a great score of 41 points, one ahead of runner-up Michael Cragg on 40.
The 18-hole rundown comprised Vic Feldman with 38, John Grosskreutz and Kelvin Stephens on 37, with Aaron Robson, Stuart Win and Bill Woods all carding 36.
In the 9-hole section it was Tom Fleming’s day with a score of 20 points, one ahead of runner-up Stuart Win who won on a count back from Vic Feldman and Mick Kavanagh, all on 19.
In the rundown were Kelvin Stephens, Bill Woods, Mal Carter and Aaron Robson all carding 18 and winning on count back from two others.
This Saturday will see the annual Ugly Ducklings Day which is a great day of fun golf for both members and social players alike.
A number of prizes from a large pool of sponsors will be on offer and this very popular event will tee off at 11.30am with a shotgun start.
Registrations will be accepted from 11am and players are encouraged to get their foursomes together for a great day on the links.
Thursday players will be competing over nine and 18holes in a stroke event, with tee times to suit individual players.
Registrations are now available for the annual Proserpine opens for men, mixed and ladies, which will take place in early August, starting with the Proserpine ladies open on Friday, August 2, the mixed open on Saturday, August 3 and the premier event of the year, the men’s open on Sunday, August 4.
Catering will be available for lunch and breakfast where appropriate on each day.
Ladies’ golf was cancelled last Wednesday due to wet weather however a fantastic roll up of ladies enabled the bulk of the organisation to be done prior to the Proserpine Ladies Open on Friday, August 2.
On Friday, July 5, nine ladies travelled to Collinsville to compete in their open.
Fantastic results were achieved with five trophies being won by the travelling group. Lyn Muller was the A grade nett runner up, Guus Hermans won the C grade gross, Tessa Aitken was the C grade gross runner up, Tina Badenhorst won the C grade nett and Caroline Awdry won the overall visitors nett.
The club congratulated all the winners and everyone participated, as they continue to support other clubs in the region.
With pennants and the open approaching the ladies will try and play a couple of stroke events over the next two weeks.
Marlene Gray and Alison Day will also have their trophy days in the coming weeks and Wednesday, August 7 will be the monthly medal day.
On Sunday, the dawnbusters played the back 9 with Lisa Schrung on 56/45 the winner ahead of runner-up Alan Ford on 50/50.
Third place went to George Stevensen on a count back with 55/50.
Nearest-the-pins went to Mark Conan and Alan Ford, the snake putter was Al Greedy and the least number of putts was Tony Sellwood with 13. The Bradman’s went to Barry McKenzie on 64/65.
Next Sunday, the dawnies will be on the front 9 and on Sunday, August 4, they are travelling to Bowen by bus to play so they don’t clash with the Proserpine open.
