Kercher king of the golf course

A GROUP of 22 players took to the course last Sunday to play a versus par competition.

While the course has almost recovered from the recent rain, a few heavy patches and unpredictable greens tested players on the day. Star of the day was Reg Kercher with the longest drive and two nearest-the-pins and the runner up spot in C grade.

Other wins were spread throughout the field.

Versus par is a difficult game in which to score well but perseverance won out in the end.

A grade was won by Kym Hill on +1 ahead of runner-up Geoff Harrison on -6.

Mick Caton took out B grade on a count back from Mark Nicol while Ernie Holstein had the best gross score.

C grade’s winner was Tessa Aitken on +2 ahead of Reg Kercher who finished square and Kevin Mills had the best gross score.

Longest drives came from Brad Bowring in A grade, Mick Cooper in B, Reg Kercher in C and Jacqui Wall for the ladies.

Nearest-the-pins in A/B grade were Brendan Meharry on hole 2, Kym Hill on 9, Mick Caton on 13 and Brad Hammond on 16.

In C grade nearest-the-pins was Reg Kercher on hole 9 and 16.

Nearest-the-pins for the ladies were Jacqui Wall on hole 9, Beryl Miller on 13 and Tiina Raandmae on 16.

Next Sunday will be the Ju- ly monthly medal with tee-off at 7.30am.

Membership fees must be paid by the end of July and numbers are needed for the Magnetic Island trip.

GOLFING BUDDIES: Kym Hill, Tessa Aitken, Mick Caton, Reg Kercher and Mark Nicol were among the winners for the Whitsunday Golf Club on Saturday.
